2022 – Working for Water – Species and Herbicide List v14   

An evolving spreadsheet collated by Debbie Muir (DFFE).  

Historically referred to as the ‘Working for Water’ – Species and Herbicide List

This incredibly useful v14 of the list details which herbicides can be used on which invasive species. 

The List v14 also contains information on label restrictions, herbicide poisoning indicators and hazards.

2022 – Herbicides for Invasive Alien Plant Control

A detailed table of the various chemical groups, hazard group, hazard criterion and classification for herbicides used in the invasive species sector.

2021 – Environmental Programmes Herbicide Policy

Developed by Debbie Muir (DFFE) for Environmental Programmes. 

This herbicide policy is the most comprehensive document covering the legal and safe use of herbicides in South Africa.

2020 – Guidelines for PPE Needed per Environmental Programmes Job Category 

These guidelines were developed by M. Talip & D. Muir. 

The excel spreadsheet details all the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) –  including the quantity and per specific criteria – needed by all contractors. 

These guidelines have become the standard for PPE protocols for the invasive species sector.

Herbicides are an important tool in controlling herbicides.  All herbicides are controlled by legislation. 

1983 Agricultural Pests Act (Act 36)    

This version is the Agricultural Pests Act 36 of 1983  includes amendments (1985, 1986, 1989 and 1992)

2014 (6 June):  Agricultural Pests Act – Amendments 

Information regarding the amendment to control measures relating to invasive species in terms of the Agricultural Pests Act as per the Government Gazette no 37702.

2021 (29 March): Regulations for Hazardous Chemical Agents as per Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993)

67 page document covering all the information needed by organisations using herbicides in the workplace.

An Addendum to the Regulations was made on 31 March, 2021
