Pre-border weed risk assessment
Phindulo Aldrin Mashau - DAFF, SACNASP
The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries conducts pre-border weed risk assessment as part of its international obligations to prevent the introduction of species that are likely to establish, spread and become invasive pests of plants and plant products.
This is the first step in a series of a complex scientific process called Pest Risk Assessment in the division Pest Risk Analysis within the Directorate Plant Health.
Weed risk assessment is conducted on either a genus or a species level looking at various regulations as well as characteristics of the plant.
