Atlantis Aquifer Invasive Plant Control
The Nature Conservancy Director of Water Funds for South Africa, Louise Stafford, is inviting invasive species teams, mentors and experts to submit proposals for an invasive species clearing project in Atlantis, Western Cape.
The Nature Conservancy is interested in contracting appropriately experienced and skilled service provider(s) for the following three (3) services:
1. Specialist invasive plant control services in combination with employment & mentorship of a local community team consisting of individuals from the communities of Atlantis, Mamre and Pella;
2. Skills development and training of the local community team;
3. Establishment of a local invasive plant control small business.
Interested service providers have the options of submitting a proposal for (a) any one of the three services, or (b) a combination of any two, or (c) all three services.

Project Details
1. Purpose
The purpose of this service is to develop and establish a small local community based business, skilled in providing the service of invasive plant control while clearing 50 hectares of invasive plants on the Atlantis Aquifer Protection Zone (A map will be provided).
2. Objectives
The objectives of the service are:
* To employ, supervise and mentor a local community team,
* To provide skilled labor and start-up equipment for clearing 50 hectares of invasive plants on the Atlantis Aquifer Protection Zone.
* Set up a local community-led invasive plant control team
* To mentor and train the local community-led invasive plant control team
Three services are required:
* Service 1
Specialist invasive plant control services in combination with employment & mentorship of a local community team consisting of 10 individuals (women) from the communities of Atlantis (6), Mamre (2) and Pella (2).
- Timeframe: Invasive plant control & team mentoring services - from the date of signing until December, 2018. The invasive plant control services will be contracted on a daily-needs basis, not exceeding 50 days in total.
- Expected Outcome: A local labor team employed under a specialized service provider, receiving fortnightly wages, covered for injuries on duty, registered for UIF and receive on-the-job skills development and transport to-and-from work, preparing them for independence.
* Service 2
Skills development and training of the local community team
- Timeframe: March – October 2018
- Expected Outcome: A fully capacitated and skilled team able to operate independently
* Service 3
Establishment of a local invasive plant control small business.
- Timeframe: July to December 2018
- Expected Outcome: A fully independent invasive plant team established representing the Atlantis, Mamre & Pella communities
Reporting
